Rowan Employee Softball League
Week 1 Due to the rainy weather, the first game of the season was cancelled with Athletics and Fightin' Facilities chompin' at the bit to play. The game is rescheduled for Monday, June 2nd. In the other matchup played on Wednesday, May 21st the game was a nail-biter as the IT Memorial Marauders were able to escape a narrow victory over Everyone Else!. Everyone Else played with 9 players and put on a spectacular effort. A 3-0 low scoring affair in the 3rd innning exploded in the 4th inning as Memorial took a 12-2 lead. Everyone else managed to overcome the deficit by taking the lead by scoring 13 runs in the next 2 innings. Memorial came back though with a vengeance and scored 5 runs in the last inning to claim the 17-16 victory. Week 2 Fightin' Facilities and Everyone Else! played a great game, with many pivotal moments in this close affair. Everyone Else! held a 2-1 lead over 3 innings, but Facilities took the lead with 2 runs in the 4th. Back and forth all game, Everyone Else had the chance to close it out in the top of the 7th if they could hold their 5-4 lead. A critical error by the Everyone Else! shortstop led to a 3 run homer by Fightin's Kyle Gandy, forcing Everyone Else! to earn their victory in the bottom of the 7th. With some patient at bats leading to 3 walks, Everyone Else! shortstop hit a bases loaded homerun to bring home the victory. Athletics put on quite the display against Memorial Marauders. In their decisive 15-5 win, they never relinquished the lead during the game. Coach Gilmore pitched a spectacle with 6 strikeouts for the game. Coach Leacott provided much of the offense, going 4-5, with 2 singles, a double and a homerun. Week 3 Athletics continues to dominate and stay undefeated with a big win over Fightin' Facilities. Starting off slow, Athletics slugged their way to a 16-5 victory. Coach Ranero was perfect at the plate, leading the team. Patty Raube pitched well in Coach Gimore's absence, and Athletics is looking forward to their showdown with Everyone Else! Everyone Else! stopped the undefeated run of Athletics by pulling out an 8-6 victory. Pitcher Joe Mulligan kep Athletics scoreless from the 4th inning on, giving his team the opportunity to make up a 6-3 deficit after 3 innings. Marcus Thompson from Everyone Else! lead the team going 4-5 with 3 runs scored. Tracey Keith also provided 3 hits in the victory.
Overview: The Co-Rec Employee Softball League is played on Monday - Wednesday Nights starting Monday, May 19th. Games are 7 innings. No extra innings in regular season (results in a tie). Must have a minimum of 8 players per game to avoid a forfeit. NO base stealing or bunting. NO SLIDING! Each base can be overrun similar to running to 1st base. For Co-Rec, outfielders must line up behind the 175 foot line when females bat. Must have at least 3 females to start a game. Games will be played on the Varsity Softball Field and possibly on the Varsity Baseball Field.
Registration Information: The deadline for the Employee Softball League is on Thursday, May 8th at 7pm at the Rec Center Front Desk. All registration forms must be filled out completely with all the relevant information from the captain and the participating teammates. Teams must submit an availability, with all open times they can participate. Please do your best to be available at both time slots. Rosters are open during the season and additional players may be added each contest until the playoffs. Schedules will be made the week of May 12th and emailed and posted on this webpage by Wednesday, May 14th
Individuals that are interested in playing and don’t have a team can email the sports information office (sportsinfo@rowan.edu). The league will play until late June.
