While all students will take four required courses (Core I, Core II, and Seminar I and Seminar II) equaling 12 credit hours, students will spend 18 credit hours pursuing their interests in one of the following areas: composition studies, creative writing, journalism and managerial communication.
Students may cross areas to create a flexible, unique program to fit specific needs. Please discuss this option with the Graduate Program Advisor.
Seminar I introduces students to the professionalizing aspects of being a writer. In addition, in Seminar I students write their prospectus. The prospectus is the first step toward completing the thesis, portfolio, or major project for graduation. The Seminar II credit hours are devoted to students completing a thesis, portfolio of publishable works or major project to demonstrate their expertise in a specialized area.
The Thesis/Project component will be guided by the Graduate Program Advisor and the individual student's academic thesis advisor, if the student desires a second reader for the thesis/project component.
Students must matriculate no later than 9 semester hours into their coursework.
