The Creating Higher Aspirations & Motivation Project/Gaining
Early Awareness for Undergraduate Programs (C.H.A.M.P./Gear
Up) is a pre-college program funded in part by Rowan University,
The N.J. Commission on Higher Education, The U.S. Department
of Education, The Campbell Soup Foundation, The Camden City
Board of Education and the Camden Empowerment Zone Corp.
The program is designed to encourage and support 7th-12th
grade students to improve their performance in school and
prepare to attend college, by providing mentoring, tutoring,
counseling, trips and various enrichment activities. Ongoing
parent workshops such as computer training, stress management,
and financial planning are also provided.
Junior C.H.A.M.P. includes 45 6th & 7th Grade students
from R.T. Cream, Cooper’s Poynt and Lanning Square Schools
in Camden. The summer program is designed to acquaint students
with natural and environmental studies, as well as, increase
their skills in math, science, writing, public speaking and
computer literacy.
Senior C.H.A.M.P. Includes 120 Camden City and Cumberland
County public school students who have completed grades 8th,
9th, 10th, or 11th Grades. The summer program is designed
to acquaint students with natural and environmental studies,
as well as, increase their skills in Math, Science, English,
and Computer Literacy.
Residential Senior C.H.A.M.P. Includes 100 Camden City and
Cumberland County students who have completed grades 10th
or 11th. The summer program is designed to acquaint students
with campus life as well as increase their skills in Math,
Science,
English,and Computer Literacy.

Educational Workshops
Environmental Science
Career Development
Academic and Social Activities
The program runs Monday-Friday
Transportation provided
Meals provided
Mandatory parent/student orientation in June
Six weeks participation is mandatory
A stipend will be provided upon successful completion of the
program.
